GIOfest XVIII - Isaac Gunnoo

The George Lyle Commission

On Friday 27 November at The Old Hairdresser’s, Isaac presents this year’s George Lyle Commission, a new work for Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra.

The commission was established in memory of double bassist and founding GIO member George Lyle (1948–2016), a hugely influential presence in Scotland’s jazz and improvised-music communities. Lyle’s musical relationships with George Burt, Raymond MacDonald and others during the 1990s helped create the conditions from which Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra would emerge.

The George Lyle Commission celebrates that legacy by supporting new work rooted in George’s exploratory and collaborative spirit. For GIOfest XVIII, Isaac brings an Australian musical voice into dialogue with GIO and with Lyle’s enduring influence on the orchestra.
