Bandmates with Yasuko Kaneko in Gato Libre, trumpeter Natsuka Tamura and pianist Satoko Fujii present a duo set for GIOFest XIII. The married couple have been recording since the mid 90s, both in countless combinations and groups including with GIO’s own Raymond MacDonald, No Wave legend Ikue Mori and Wadada Leo Smith. As the longstanding core of Gato Libre and as a duo alone or as part of larger ensembles, “Tamura shares a philosophy with Fujii: provide the musicians with the basic idea and then let their improvisations inspire the creative process.” (All About Jazz) and the two present a powerfully interlocked unit.
