GIOfest XIII - Renee Baker

Renee founded the Chicago Modern Orchestra Project in 2005 and is of great renown for her work in creating new directions for large ensembles, her pioneering approach ensuring the CMOP is ever questing and experimental. With 50+ professional musicians dedicated to performing music in all its forms and a repertoire of over 2000 contemporary works, the Orchestra is very highly regarded internationally for its rendering of the compositions of Cornelius Cardew, Nicole M. Mitchell, Morton Feldman and many others. “I wanted to overcome the fear of playing non-traditional genres and non-traditional scores … I’ll be honest. I started this because I was a composer and did not want to wait until I was dead to have my stuff played.”
