GIOfest XIII - Angharad Davies & Jer Reid 

Jer and Angharad first played together as part of Rafe Fitzpatrick’s Yng Ngheredigion project. At GIOfest XIII they make their debut duo collaboration.

Angharad Davies is a Welsh violinist working with free-improvisation, compositions and performance.

Her approach to sound involves attentive listening and exploring beyond the sonic confines of her instrument, her classical training and performance expectation.

Much of her work involves collaboration. She has long standing duos with Tisha Mukarji, Dominic Lash and Lina Lapelyte and plays with Common Objects, Cranc and Skogen. She has been involved in projects with Apartment House, Tarek Atui, Tony Conrad, Richard Dawson, Gwenno, Roberta Jean, Jack McNamara, Eliane Radigue, Georgia Ruth, Juliet Stephenson and J.G.Thirlwell.

Most of her records are released on Another Timbre but she also has releases on Absinth Records, Confrontrecords, Emanem, Potlatch and winds measure recordings.

Her album Ffansion | Fancies was voted in the top 12 albums for Radio 3’s Late Junction.

Jer Reid is a musician, sound engineer and dramaturg living in Glasgow. He started playing music in noisy guitar bands in the early 90’s when he was also a member of the Glasgow Music Collective and he started his own label Gruff Wit Records. He still plays in bands like sumshapes and Painted X-Ray and improvises in many configurations and projects including as Claquer with writer Lisa Fannen. With Solène Weinachter he started the music/ dance improvising group Collective Endeavours in 2011 which through it’s rigour and the diverse viewpoints of it’s members was instrumental in shaping his approach to improvising. He has been a member of the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra since 2014.
