VIR II - Maria Chavez and the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra - 20th October 2025

The female and non-binary wing of GIO are pleased to announce a presentation of the remarkable Maria Chavez, one of the most imaginative, compelling and vibrant turntablists working today.

Hailing from Peru, Maria Chavez has been working with sound and turntables since her teens, often layering broken records to build a distinct palette. She’s toured widely and put out a number of ear-tingling releases including 2019 album Plays. Maria last visited Glasgow for Counterflows Festival in a trio turntablist project with Victoria Shen and GIO friend Mariam Rezaei.

In an exciting collaboration with RCS students led by Maria Sappho and members of GIO, Maria Chavez will present new works at Exit Glasgow.
